The incident happened on Wednesday night, Sept. 13, and started when Yonkers Police began investigating a larceny in a neighboring jurisdiction and found the male suspect in the Cross County Shopping Center, according to Yonkers Police Detective Sergeant Frank DiDomizio.

The suspect then drove away from the shopping center and began leading officers on a short pursuit before entering I-87 the wrong way and driving south in the northbound lanes toward the Bronx.

At this point, Yonkers officers ended the chase and told the New York City Police Department about the suspect while also canvassing the southbound lanes of I-87 in the correct direction, DiDomizio said.

As Yonkers Police units entered the Bronx during this canvass, they soon found a two-vehicle collision involving the suspect's car.

Two civilians in the second vehicle involved in the crash were injured and taken to a local hospital, where they are now listed in stable condition.

According to DiDomizio, the suspect left the scene of the crash before officers arrived. Yonkers Police and the NYPD are now searching for him.

The suspect has been identified, but his name has not yet been released by authorities.
